What is the Remix feature?

The Remix feature in the vidIQ extension helps you draw inspiration from trending, high-performing YouTube content and put your unique spin on it. This feature allows you to inspire yourself with what works while adding your personal touch, making the brainstorming process easier and enabling you to create content that has already proven to resonate with audiences. It's a shortcut to creativity that allows creators to build on successful content within their niche or even draw inspiration from different genres.

To see how Remix works in action, check out our video, "We Launched a New YouTube Update… It’s Incredible 🚀" In it, we break down exactly how to use the Remix feature and show you how it can help elevate your content strategy!

How to Get Started with Remix?

This feature is available within the vidIQ extension (click here to download it). After downloading the vidIQ extension, you will see the Remix feature:

  • YouTube Homepage video cards: If you hover over the title, channel name, date of upload, or video views, the Remix feature will appear.

  • YouTube Search page video cards: If you hover over the title, channel name, date of upload, description, or video views, the Remix feature will appear.

  • YouTube Channel pages: On any channel's channel page, if you hover over the title, date of upload, or video views, the Remix feature will appear.

  • YouTube Video watch pages: The Remix feature will appear next to the subscribe button of any video you are watching.

How Remix Works?

Once you click on the Remix feature for the first time, you’ll be asked to set up topics (unless you already have a vidIQ account with topics added inside the Create tab).

These keywords influence the Remix results and help the feature make recommendations based on the content you’re focusing on. If you want the Remix feature to suggest ideas from a different genre or topic, you can always adjust or remove specific topics to see how different content formats might inspire you:

Then, after adding your keywords/topics, the feature presents a window where you can refine your ideas:

Here’s a breakdown of the features inside Remix:

  • Preferences: Adjust the topics you want to focus on for content generation. These topics will influence your results, so if you’re looking for inspiration from a different angle, feel free to tweak or add topics.

  • Refresh: Refresh the title suggestions offered based on your selected video. Refreshing will offer new suggestions tied to your set topics.

  • Copy: Copies the suggested title to your clipboard for easy use.

  • Generate: This option transports your chosen title into vidIQ’s Generate feature within the web app.

  • Keyword Score: The overall score (or keyword score) is determined to help gauge how effective a keyword would be in your video optimization efforts. This score will be next to a title in the Remix Video window.

Please note the Remix feature currently works exclusively for YouTube long-form videos.

Remix a Video in 3 Simple Steps:

1. Find a Title That Works:

You can start by heading over to YouTube and looking for a video title in your niche that has performed exceptionally well. But how do you know which videos are outperforming others? Using vidIQ’s Chrome extension, you can check key performance metrics such as the Outlier Score and Views Per Hour (VPH). These metrics help you identify videos currently getting a lot of traction and outperforming their peers. Look for videos with a high Outlier Score or a high VPH. This indicates that the title and format of the video are resonating with viewers.

2. Choose the Title and Remix It:

Once you’ve found a video that’s performing well, click on the Remix button. This allows you to customize the video title to fit your niche, audience, and style. This is your opportunity to take a proven concept and make it your own.

3. Use Remix and Generate to Optimize Your Content:

Once you’ve created a title you’re happy with, it’s time to move to the next step: content optimization. Remix integrates seamlessly with Generate:

Creating YouTube content doesn't have to be a guessing game. With Remix, you can access video ideas that have already proven themselves. Additionally, with the help of Generate, you can quickly create titles, descriptions, tags, and thumbnails that will help enhance your video's performance.
