Connecting the wrong YouTube channel or seeing “Account Not Found”?

How to choose the correct YouTube channel during Google verification

“Wrong Channel” or “Account Not Found” errors when connecting your channel to vidIQ usually happen when a different channel profile is selected during Google verification.

If you have more than one YouTube channel, including ones you no longer use or channels you renamed in the past, it can be difficult to know which profile to choose.

Before continuing, we recommend checking your channel list inside YouTube first. This only takes a few seconds and helps ensure the correct channel is connected.

Step 1. Check your channels inside YouTube

  1. Go to YouTube

  2. Click your profile picture in the top right corner

  3. Select Switch account

You will see the full list of channels connected to your Google login.

Before moving forward, note:

  • The email address that owns the channel you want to connect

  • Where your channel appears in the list, for example first, second, or third

You will use this information during Google verification.

Step 2. Start connecting your channel in vidIQ

Begin the normal authentication process inside vidIQ.

When Google asks you to choose an account:

  • Select the Google email associated with your YouTube channel

  • Continue to the screen that shows available channel profiles

Step 3. Choose the correct channel profile

Take a moment to confirm the correct profile before clicking Continue. Important things to know: Channel names or logos may not match.

If you renamed your YouTube channel in the past, the Google verification screen may still show an older label. Because of this, do not rely only on the name only.

Match the channel by its position in the list

The channels shown on the Google verification page appear in the same order as they do in YouTube’s Switch account list.

Do not automatically select the first option. Always confirm which profile belongs to your channel.

Example

If your Switch account list shows:

  1. Gaming Channel

  2. Travel Channel

  3. Old Test Channel

Then the Google verification screen will list them in the same order.

To connect your Travel Channel, select the second option on the Google screen, labeled “Channel B”.

Ignore entries labeled Brand Account

If you see an option called Brand Account, you can ignore it when counting the order.

This is a technical account entry and usually is not the channel you need to connect.

Connected the wrong channel?

No problem. You can disconnect the channel in vidIQ and repeat the authentication process using the steps above.
