What is the AI Content Filter?
The AI Content Filter in the vidIQ extension lets you choose how videos labeled by YouTube as made with AI appear while you browse. You can keep them visible, blur their thumbnails, or hide them from view.
The filter applies to videos that carry YouTube’s own “Made with AI” label. vidIQ does not detect AI content itself, so unlabeled videos are not affected.
How to Get Started with the AI Content Filter
This feature is available within the vidIQ extension (click here to download it).
Availability: The feature is currently being tested with a limited group of extension users, so you may not see it yet.
Open YouTube in your desktop browser with the vidIQ extension enabled.
Click the robot icon next to the vidIQ Filters button.
Choose Show AI content, Blur AI content, or Hide AI content.
How the AI Content Filter Works
Here is what each option does:
Show AI content: Videos labeled as AI appear like any other video. This is the default setting.
Blur AI content: Labeled videos stay in place, but their thumbnails are blurred. Hover previews are disabled while a thumbnail is blurred.
Hide AI content: Labeled video cards are removed from your feed, search results, and suggestions.
Viewing a blurred thumbnail
A blurred thumbnail displays “Labeled by YouTube as made with AI.” Click Show anyway to reveal that thumbnail without changing your overall filter setting.
Changing or turning off the filter
You can change your preference at any time using the robot icon. Select Show AI content to stop blurring or hiding labeled videos. Your selected mode is saved when you reload the page.
Where Can I Use It?
The filter works on YouTube’s home feed, search results, and watch-page suggestions in your desktop browser. You can also access the filter menu on the Subscriptions page.
The vidIQ AI Content Filter does not apply to YouTube Shorts or run in YouTube Studio.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I still see videos that look AI-generated?
As the filter menu explains, videos without YouTube’s “Made with AI” label are not affected. Filtering may also take a moment as videos approach the visible part of the page.
Why don’t I see the filter?
The feature is in a limited test and is not available to every extension user yet. If you do not see the robot icon, it does not necessarily mean there is a problem with your account or extension.
Does using the filter spend AI credits or require an upgrade?
The current test does not charge AI credits or require a feature-specific paid upgrade. Access depends on whether the feature is enabled for you as part of the test.
Can Shorts have an AI label?
Yes. YouTube can display an AI disclosure label on Shorts, but that is separate from support for the vidIQ AI Content Filter. The filter does not apply to Shorts. You can read more about YouTube’s AI labels here.
